چکیده

This thesis describes a novel video mosaicing method which is capable of generating a geometric distortion-free mosaic image. Video mosaicing, which stitches partial images of a target into a larger image called a mosaic image, has been used to obtain high resolution images of documents. Generally, mosaic images are prone to two types of geometric distortions: perspective distortion which appears when the target document is not fronto-parallel to the camera’s image plane, and curvature distortion which is caused by projecting curved surface of the target document to the image plane of the camera. This thesis first focuses on a flat document, and proposes a perspective distortion-free video mosaicing method for flat documents. In the proposed method, extrinsic camera parameters are estimated for each frame by applying structure from motion technique to the captured video. Using estimated extrinsic camera parameters, the method dewarps all the frame images and synthesizes them on a virtual fronto-parallel plane to generate a super-resolved mosaic image without perspective distortion. Then, this method for flat documents is extended to deal with curved documents. This extended method generates a virtually flattened mosaic image of a curved surface. In this method, first, extrinsic camera parameters, along with ∗Doctoral Dissertation, Department of Information Systems, Graduate School of Information Science, Nara Institute of Science and Technology, NAIST-IS-DD0661201, August 21, 2008.

Distortion-Free Image Mosaicing for Tunnel Inspection Based on Robust Cylindrical Surface Estimation through Structure from Motion

Visual inspection, although labor-intensive, costly, and inaccurate, is a common practice used in the condition assessment of underground tunnels to ensure safety and serviceability. This paper presents a system thatcan construct a mosaic image of a tunnel surface with little distortion, allowing a large area of tunnels to be visualized, and enabling tunnel inspection to be carried out off-line...

Video Mosaicing for Document Imaging

This paper describes a real-time video mosaicing method for digitizing paper documents with mobile and low-resolution video cameras. Our proposed method is based on the structure-from-motion technique with real-time processing. Therefore, it can dewarp an image suffering from perspective deformation caused by a slanted and curved document surface. The curved surfaces are reconstructed as an exp...

Background Mosaicing for Scenes with Moving Objects

The general problem of mosaicing is to create a single seamless image by aligning a series of spatially overlapped images. The result is an image with a field of view greater than that of a single image. This paper proposes a framework for creating a panoramic view representing the background of a given image sequence, by discarding the foreground objects. Our system performs motion estimation ...

An Improved Motion Vector Estimation Approach for Video Error Concealment Based on the Video Scene Analysis

In order to enhance the accuracy of the motion vector (MV) estimation and also reduce the error propagation issue during the estimation, in this paper, a new adaptive error concealment (EC) approach is proposed based on the information extracted from the video scene. In this regard, the motion information of the video scene around the degraded MB is first analyzed to estimate the motion type of...
